Rep. J. Johnson and others have introduced HB 89 which would establish an expanded substantive right of “good cause” protections against termination for employees. The legislation exempts employers with less than five employees and part-time employees working less than 20 hours. But nevertheless, if passed the legislation would be a huge encroachment on the rights of employers to hire and fire employees. The legislation has been assigned to the House Labor Committee.
NFIB is urging all members to contact their elected officials and urge defeat of the legislation.
