Report: Georgia Ranks High in Women-Owned Businesses

Date: June 16, 2015

The number of women-owned firms in Georgia grew at the fastest pace in the nation, according to a study on the state of small businesses owned by women.

Women business owners rose to the top in Georgia.

Georgia ranked No. 6 nationwide in the number of businesses
owned by women, up four spots from its previous ranking in 1996, according to the State of Women Businesses 2015 report.

Georgia had 338,100 women-owned businesses in 2015, the study reported. The Peach State also
had the highest growth rate for the number of women-owned firms, jumping 132.2
percent from 1997 to 2015. When compared in growth, revenue and employment
figures, Georgia came out as the fourth-best state for women-owned firms. Its
ranking was dragged down by a lower revenue rating. Georgia ranked No. 8
overall for these measurements in 2002.

Atlanta was ranked seventh place in the nation in a list of
the top-10 cities across with the most women-owned businesses, according to the
study. The state’s capital reported 202,900 businesses in 2015, up one spot
since 2002. When measured for growth, revenue and employment, Atlanta climbed
to a fourth-place ranking, largely due to its high growth rate.

Georgia has consistently done well as a state for its
business friendliness. With low taxes and an environment that cultivates high
rates of growth, The Peach State is one of the best
places nationwide
for small business and women-owned firms.
