Election Report From State Director Bob Hallstrom

Date: November 06, 2014

Election night was a rousing success for NFIB and its small-business owner members, with candidates endorsed by the NFIB Safe Trust PAC for Governor and in 16 of 18 legislative races being elected.
Newly-elected Gov. Pete Ricketts campaigned on the need for tax relief and regulatory relief and will certainly promote a strong legislative agenda in 2015.
General Election night results should provide for an even more business-friendly legislative body. With the state’s cash reserve approaching $800 million, NFIB will encourage the return of some of these funds to taxpayers in the form of income and property tax relief.
On a down note, NFIB was disappointed that voters approved Measure 425, which will increase the minimum wage from $7.25 to $9.00 per hour over the next two years. In opposing the measure, NFIB had predicted that increasing the minimum wage would result in a loss of jobs and be a drag on the state’s economy.
