Regulatory Flex Legislation

Author: ellen valentino Date: May 06, 2011

The House of Representatives moved swiftly on HB 54 The Regulatory Flexibility Act. For the second year in a row the House moved quickly to pass HB 54 almost unanimously. The bill is now pending in the Senate Executive Committee.
The legislation is supported by NFIB and other business groups seeking a fairer playing field in government regulation. The goal of the legislation is to foster a better climate for small business by requiring government agencies to analyze and publish an economic impact study on proposed regulations and to take into consideration the cost of new regulation on small business. It also requires agencies to review every 5 years existing regulations and its impact on small business.
The legislation is likely to have an uphill battle in the Senate. We are urging NFIB members to contact their state senators and urge support for quick passage of HB 54.
