Reform Takes Center Stage
NFIB/Wisconsin supports Assembly Bill 32
Now that Wisconsin lawmakers have settled its Right-to-Work debate,
policymakers are turning their attention to another key small business agenda
item: repealing the state’s prevailing wage law.
Representative Rob Hutton has introduced legislation that would eliminate the
state prevailing wage law.
“With tight budgets, the elimination of prevailing wage will provide local
governments with a critical tool to reduce costs associated with capital
budgets,” Hutton has said.
“At a time when the Legislature will need to maximize every tax dollar they
collect, we are pleased Representative Hutton is introducing legislation that
will save tax dollars, and end a practice that shuts out small contractors from
participating in the bidding process for state and local projects,” said Bill
G. Smith, NFIB State Director.
This legislation eliminates Wisconsin’s prevailing wage law, allowing for
broader participation in the government bidding process at wage levels that
more accurately reflect market wage conditions.
