Post-Election Comment From Small Business

Date: November 05, 2014

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Nov. 5, 2014—Minda McGonagle, New Mexico state director for the National Federation of Independent Business, America’s voice of small business, made the following comment today on last night’s election outcome.
“It looks like it was a good night for small business. We need a stronger private sector economy in New Mexico. This historic change in the House majority can present new priorities and new opportunities. As the discussion changes, so do the outcomes. Our small businesses are hoping that today the focus now turns to governing for everybody in both parties, both legislative chambers and in all other elected offices.
“NFIB is looking forward to real deliberation and debate on important issues of the day, such as workers’ compensation, taxes and, yes, even right to work. We appreciate the hard work of every candidate during this past election. We are hopeful that the winners better understand what small business needs, and, more importantly, what it doesn’t need to be a strong participant in building a vibrant economy.”
Small business has a huge stake in the outcome of this midterm election, because there is still no broad-based recovery among the Main Street enterprises that employ the majority of working Americans and generate almost every new job—and a big reason for that is political. NFIB has 350,000 dues-paying members across the nation, including more than 1,500 in New Mexico.
