Plainfield Small Business Owners Dodge Paid Sick Leave Law

Date: April 15, 2015

Small business owners in Plainfield, New Jersey, dodged a bullet this week when the City Council killed a mandated paid sick leave proposal.

The measure would have required businesses to reward full, temporary and part-time workers with an hour of mandated paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. Leave would have been capped between 24 or 40 hours a year, depending on the size of a business.

The NFIB/NJ victory is a win for small business owners. But, the issue could resurface, as Councilwoman Rebecca Williams promised to reintroduce the issue later this year.
