Index up 0.17 percent for the month.
Oregon’s small business employment grew 0.17 percent in April, according to the Small Business Index from Intuit. That comes on top of a 0.18 increase in March and a 0.19 increase in February.
Across the country, small business employment rose 0.1 percent during April, the study found.
“Since the recovery in small business jobs began in March 2010, small business employment has expanded by a total of 4.6 percent, in contrast to total private payrolls which have grown 11 percent,” said Susan Woodward, the economist who works with Intuit to produce the Small Business Employment and Revenue Indexes. “Small businesses are growing, but not as fast as the overall economy. This has been true for at least 50 years, but the difference has accelerated since the recession.”
Revenues per small business declined 0.3 percent, led by real estate and retail. April was the sixth straight month of revenue declines for small businesses.
Oregon’s 0.17 percent increase in small business employment was better than California’s (.09) but not as good as Idaho’s (.84) or Washington’s (.26).
The study covers firms with fewer than 20 employees.
