Gov. Mary Fallin has signed a bill prohibiting Oklahoma cities from establishing their own minimum wage and paid vacation or sick-leave requirements.
NFIB/Oklahoma, the state’s leading small-business association, supported the legislation, which creates greater certainty for small businesses by eliminating the possibility that local governments will create a confusing hodgepodge of mandates in different parts of the state.
In a statement, the governor said “most minimum-wage workers are young, single people working part-time or entry-level jobs” and that raising the minimum wage would force employers to offset any increase in labor costs by reducing hours or cutting jobs.
