No Special Session, Please

Date: June 27, 2014

In a letter delivered to Gov. John Hickenlooper on June 27, NFIB urged the state’s chief executive not to call a special session of the Legislature for the purpose of giving local governments power to regulate the oil and gas industry.
“Colorado Oil and Gas Commission rules are some of the strongest not only in content but also in enforcement,” wrote NFIB/Colorado State Director Tony Gagliardi. “NFIB sees no need to call a special session to address the issues of the special interest environment groups.”
In an earlier, related story, Gagliardi said, “We already have a state oil and gas commission overseeing the nation’s most stringent regulations, so whose political agenda is being served by allowing 64 counties to add their layer of rules? We side with the Colorado Oil & Gas Association which, like NFIB, represents Main Street oil and gas companies that would bear almost the entire burden of this bad idea.”
