Walking into Brewster Washers is a pleasantly unexpected
experience; the plant is clean and orderly and the President of the company,
Sal Freda, Jr greets visitors with a warm friendly smile and the family dog in
his arms. Brewster Washers has pride in
the fact that all their parts are made in the USA with US Materials; the US
flag flying outside the building as well as the many flags displayed around the
plant show how much being a US manufacturer means to the family at Brewster.
Brewster, located in Fairfield, New Jersey, has evolved into
a custom precision parts manufacturer which has been primarily known as a
leading manufacturer of quality, precision round washers, shims, discs and
spacers for over 95 years. Founded by
Bill Brewster Jr. in 1919 and passed on to his two daughters Katherine and
Marguerite upon his death, Bill instilled in them and it is continued today
through Sal “Good, better, best – never let it rest, until your good is better
and your better is best”. Sal Freda, Jr.
took over the company upon his father’s retirement in 2012.
Sal is constantly looking to the future and has recently
purchased a wire EDM machine to do new types of different shaped washers and
parts with numerous holes. In keeping
with the quality that Bill knew was an important factor of this business,
Brewster received their ISO9001 certification in 2013.
Brewster Washers can be found in machines all over the
country and even in outer space. “Years
ago it started with the Apollo missions and more recently our parts were used
in the Mars Lunar Rover” Sal said. We receive
requests for our parts from all types of industries from electric car
manufacturers to intricate medical devices.
Brewster has been a member of NFIB for nearly 45 years.
