NFIB's Dan Danner: Small Business Issues Below the Headlines

Date: March 05, 2015

It's a busy time in Washington, but you can find comfort in knowing NFIB is on the front lines fighting on your behalf.

Washington is preoccupied lately
with national security issues, but there is still plenty happening below the
headlines that has implications for your business.

NFIB
is deeply involved in the current tax reform debate, pushing hard against the one-sided
approach favored by the Obama administration that would only reduce corporate tax
rates and ignore small businesses. Corporate tax reform may be a good start, but any legislation must also include provisions that provide relief for small business owners who pay
most of the taxes and are the biggest job creators in America.

Another
hot topic is the Keystone XL Pipeline. NFIB Key Voted the Keystone Pipeline
Act, which would move this project forward. Legislation passed both houses, but the President unfortunately vetoed it. Now NFIB is
working hard to help override the veto and finally see companies break ground on this critical
infrastructure project that will create thousands of new jobs, reduce our
dependence on Middle East oil, and lower the cost of energy.

Finally,
it is no secret that the National Labor Relations Board has been aggressively
anti-business. We are fighting in Congress and in court to overturn an
NLRB decision called the Ambush Election Rule. This
would condense the time for union elections down to 10 days, leaving little time
for employers to educate their employees on the advantages or disadvantages of
unionizing.

It’s
a busy time in Washington, and I hope you find comfort in knowing NFIB is on
the front lines fighting on your behalf. You can follow the action in Washington
and in your state’s capital right here at NFIB.com. Thank you
again for your membership, and please let us know if there’s more we can do for
your business.

Sincerely,
Dan
