NFIB/Ohio Presents Awards To Legislators - Names Small Business Champion

Date: October 10, 2014

The National
Federation of Independent Business/Ohio, the state’s leading small business association, presented its prestigious
Guardian of Small Business
award to State Sen. Bill Seitz (Cincinnati) and State Rep. Kirk Schuring (Canton)
in recognition of their outstanding efforts to support small business issues in
the Ohio Legislature. Since its inception in 1988, this award has been
presented to just over 50 members of the state legislature.

“Senator Seitz and Representative
Schuring both have distinguished records in the Ohio Legislature. During their
time there, they have been steady and strong supporters of Ohio’s small
businesses,” said Roger R. Geiger, vice president/executive director of
NFIB/Ohio. “Both legislators appreciate the role small businesses play in
creating jobs and stimulating our state’s economy.”

The NFIB/Ohio
Leadership Council voted to present Senator Seitz and Representative Schuring
with the Guardian of Small Business Award, the organization’s most prestigious
award, in recognition of their strong pro-small business record.

“This is a great
honor to receive the Guardian of Small Business form NFIB.  Small business is such an important part of
Ohio’s economy.  I have enjoyed
championing their causes over the years in working on issues such as tort
reform and the reduction of mandates that disproportionately impact them in
their day-to-day operations,” said Senator Seitz. “I appreciate their
recognizing me with this award.”

“I’m very honored to receive
this recognition from the NFIB. Small businesses are the heart and soul of our
economy. They operate in a highly competitive environment with very tight
margins. It is important that the legislative actions we take in the General
Assembly bolster their efforts and not create undue burdens,” said
Representative Schuring.

Also presented at the state’s
Leadership Council meeting was the NFIB/Ohio annual recognition of the Small
Business Champion that went to Ken Blair, owner of Central Express LLC in
Newbury. Mr. Blair has been an active member of NFIB for 40 years and is a
current member of the NFIB/Ohio statewide Leadership Council. In addition, he
has held numerous positions on the council during his long tenure.

“This recognition of Ken Blair
is truly deserved.  It would be hard to
find a more dedicated individual to the small business community. Ken has
seemingly done it all over the course of his time on the NFIB/Ohio Leadership
Council,” said Vice President/Executive Director of NFIB/Ohio Roger R. Geiger.

Each year, NFIB/Ohio names a
Small Business Champion from among its membership of more than 25,000 Ohio
small businesses. This individual not only gives of his/her time and resources
to promote small-business causes through involvement in NFIB activities, but
also he/she must demonstrate a spirit of service toward the community and a
commitment to advancing the concept of free enterprise.
