NFIB/Michigan Applauds Balanced Budget

Date: June 16, 2014

Lansing (Monday, June 16, 2014) – The state’s leading
advocate for small business owners today gave a “thumbs up” to Governor Snyder
and the legislature for completing the budget process on time with a balanced
state budget.

While a long term road funding solution eluded the
legislature in its final week of spring session, Governor Snyder and Michigan
lawmakers completed another structurally balanced state budget – without tax
hikes on small business – before lawmakers adjourned for the summer. All major
budgets were completed well before the traditional October deadline.

“Citizens need to be reminded that this is the fourth year
in a row that we have had a budget on time that did not rely on gimmicks and
stalling tactics to be balanced,” said Charlie Owens, Michigan State Director
for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). “Some are already
beginning to forget what a mess our state was in under the previous
administration”.

Owens noted that Michigan’s economic turnaround is
continuing to make progress under Governor Snyder and current legislative
leadership.

“The Governor’s budget and tax policies have moved Michigan
from a state that ranked dead last on so many metrics to one that is now
leading the national recovery,” said Owens. “Despite the election year
propaganda from the tax and spend crowd, the new Corporate Income Tax is a huge
boost to small business in our state”.
