NFIB Stands up For Small Business in Washington
WASHINGTON, D.C., September 18, 2014 —Karen Harned, Executive Director of NFIB’s Small Business Legal Center, released the following statement in response to the Washington Supreme Court’s decision in Walston v. The Boeing Co. In this case the Court ruled 5-4 to preserve the integrity of the workers’ compensation system in Washington State.
“We are pleased with the ruling of this case. In our brief we urged the Washington Supreme Court to uphold the Industrial Insurance Act (“IIA”), which created the state’s workers’ compensation system and is important to providing employers’ certainty when it comes to on the job injuries. If the Court had ruled differently, Washington Courts and small business owners would have been flooded with lawsuits.”
