The following is a statement from Bill Herrle, Executive Director of the
National Federation of Independent Business/Florida, regarding Governor Rick
Scott’s Small Business Saturday proclamation:
“NFIB applauds Governor Rick Scott for his commitment to our state’s small businesses and his encouragement that Floridians ‘shop small’ through his Small Business
Saturday proclamation.”
“Small Business Saturday was created in 2010 in response to small business
owners’ most pressing need, more customers, and has since grown into an annual
celebration of the independent businesses that boost our local economies.
“According to a survey released earlier this month by NFIB and American
Express, 77% of US consumers plan on ‘shopping small’ this Saturday, which is
sure to give communities across Florida a boost. That’s because money spent
locally tends to stay right in your community. It’s what helps create jobs and
opportunities right in your backyard.
“At the NFIB, Florida’s small businesses are our business, and we simply want Small
Business Saturday to serve as a gentle reminder of how important the small
business sector is to our local and national economic health. But we also hope
it will encourage Floridians to shop small not only during the holiday season,
but all year round – a sure fire way to keep our state’s economy health and
keep growing jobs.
“We thank Gov. Scott for his continued support for Florida’s small business
owners, and for encouraging Floridians to shop small on November 28.”
