NFIB Helps Defeat Costly Health-Insurance Mandates

Date: August 06, 2014

Eleven bills were introduced to require
insurance companies to cover several health issues for the public and state and
local government workers.

Only five of those mandate proposals were
eligible for the session and NFIB/North Carolina,, along with a very strong coalition of
pro-business associations, were able to work with the Senate and prevent a vote
and possible passage.

NFIB has always been opposed to any additional
insurance mandates based on the position of the NFIB members from across the
state for the past two decades.

“Any and all additional mandates only
increase the price of insurance to our members and make health insurance less
accessible to small business owners,” said Gregg Thompson, state director of NFIB/North Carolina North Carolina currently has 56 health insurance mandates–almost as many as California–driving up the cost of health care for small-business owners, their employees and their families.

“This was a very hard fought victory
for our members this year and we will continue to fight for accessible,
affordable health care for our members,” Thompson said.
