NFIB Endorses Sen. Tim Scott

Date: October 03, 2014

The National Federation of Independent Business, South Carolina’s and the nation’s leading small-business association, today endorsed Tim Scott in the special election to fill the final two years of Jim DeMint’s term in the U.S. Senate.
“Beginning when he was elected to the House in 2008 and continuing after Governor Haley appointed him to fill Jim DeMint’s vacant seat in the Senate, Tim Scott has been a tireless advocate for South Carolina’s small, family businesses,” said Lisa Goeas, NFIB vice president for Political and Grassroots.
Last month, NFIB honored Scott as a Guardian of Small Business in recognition of his outstanding support of small business in the 113th Congress. He has earned a 100 NFIB Voting Record in the Senate, supporting the small-business community by voting in favor of comprehensive tax reform (S.Amdt. 156) and repealing the estate tax, also known as the “death tax,” which hinders owners from passing their businesses down to their children and grandchildren (S.Amdt. 307).
Scott also opposed a tax on carbon emissions (S.Amdt. 261), supported construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline in order to help reduce fuel costs for small businesses (S.Amdt. 494) and opposed a 30 percent increase in the federal minimum wage, a measure that would have slowed the state’s and the nation’s recovery from the last recession and discouraged job growth by drastically raising labor costs (S. 2223).
“Tim Scott supports the issues that matter most to our small-business members, which is why we need to send him back to the Senate,” Goeas said.
Ben Homeyer, state director of NFIB/South Carolina said, “Senator Scott’s support of the small-business community has been unwavering.
“Since going to Washington, he has done everything he can to help our members grow and create jobs, and we believe he’ll continue standing for small business in the years to come,” Homeyer said.
“Without a doubt, Tim Scott is the candidate for small business,” he said.
NFIB has 4,000 dues-paying members in South Carolina, representing a cross section of the state’s economy. Scott’s endorsement comes from NFIB’s Save America’s Free Enterprise Trust (SAFE), the association’s political action committee, and is based on positions regarding key small-business issues including health care, taxes, and labor and regulations.
Small-business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for actively recruiting friends, family members and acquaintances to go to the polls. NFIB will encourage its members to help turn out the small-business vote for Scott in November.
