NFIB Endorses Hogan for Governor
Small business group says that only Hogan has the experience put Maryland on the right track

Annapolis (October 9, 2014) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Maryland’s leading organization for small business owners, today announced its full support for Larry Hogan for governor.

“Maryland has become a very difficult place for small business owners and we badly need a change of direction,” said Phyllis Burlage, owner of Burlage Associates of Millersville and a member of NFIB.   “We are proud to support a candidate who knows what it’s like to run a business and who knows how difficult it can be without a partner in government.”

Hogan, a lifelong businessman, is running against Lt. Governor Anthony Brown.

“There’s no doubt that Maryland has become less competitive under Governor O’Malley and Lt. Governor Brown,” Burlage said.  “They’ve raised taxes sharply.  They’ve increased regulation.  They’ve increased our labor costs dramatically.  And they’ve repeatedly ignored the concerns of the small business owners.”

Burlage also cited Maryland’s failed health care exchange, which has already cost taxpayers $125 million and which Brown oversaw directly.

“He had one executive responsibility as Lt. Governor and it turned out to be one of the biggest screw-ups in Maryland history,” she said.  “Obviously this is not a man who can run the rest of state government.”

Burlage said that Hogan’s business background and his positions on the issues make him the only real choice for Maryland small businesses.

“We need a governor who understands that government doesn’t create jobs and that our economy depends on whether small businesses can grow and prosper in Maryland.”

Hogan’s endorsement comes from the NFIB SAFT Trust, the organization’s
political action committee.  Small business owners are influential in
their communities and this year NFIB members will work hard to elect
Larry Hogan governor.
