NFIB/Washington Battles California Billionaire

Date: October 30, 2014

It’s one of the most watched races for a state senate seat, and NFIB’s political action committee is in the thick of it.
As it did for Sen. Tim Sheldon in the Primary Election, NFIB/Washington SAFE Trust is coming to the aid of Sen. Steve O’Ban, a proven friend of small business, by reminding voters what his opponent, Tami Green, thinks of Main Street enterprises.
A postcard, pictured above and below, is being sent to registered voters in the 28th Legislative District, informing them of Green’s dismal 10-percent, NFIB/Washington Voting Record for the 63rd Legislature (2013-2014), compared to O’Ban’s senate score of 88 percent, and 83 percent when combined with his house votes for that same period. He was elected to the house in 2012 and appointed to the senate in June 2013.
The mailing of 34,325 postcards quotes Green as admitting small business is not one of her priorities. NFIB is also highlighting the fact that she is one of two candidates initially identified as beneficiaries of a $1 million effort by Tom Steyer, a San Francisco billionaire and environmental activist, to purchase a “green-minded” senate majority.
Steyer has since contributed an additional $250,000, much of which is being used by Washington Conservation Voters to oppose Sen. Doug Ericksen in the 42nd Legislative District, a fact that came to light after the Green postcard had been produced.
This latest NFIB/Washington SAFE Trust independent expenditure mailing is scheduled to go out Friday, October 30 for delivery the Saturday and Monday before the election. Click here to learn more about NFIB’s Washington SAFE Trust.
