NFIB Backs Hayworth in NY-18
Albany (September 17, 2014) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) today announced its’ endorsement of Dr. Nan Hayworth for U.S. Congress in New York’s 18th Congressional District.
“Dr. Hayworth’s longtime experience as a doctor and small-business owner gives her first-hand knowledge of the challenges America’s entrepreneurs are suffering at the hands of a big government growing even larger,” said NFIB/New York State Director Mike Durant. “She’s a real fighter and our members will very much appreciate her leadership in Washington.”
NFIB is the country’s leading advocate for small business owners representing roughly 10,000 members in New York. The group endorses candidates based on their voting record on key issues identified by its members such as health care, taxes, labor and regulatory issues. NFIB tracks votes at the state and federal levels. In the previous Congress, Hayworth earned a 92 percent on the NFIB Voting Record.
During her term in Congress, she voted to repeal the healthcare law, supported several regulatory accountability bills, and also supported minimizing taxes for small businesses. Before serving in the House of Representatives, Hayworth opened and operated a solo ophthalmology practice in upstate New York. Through these experiences in the healthcare industry and as a small business owner, Hayworth knows first-hand what Congress needs to be focused on fixing.
NFIB Vice President Lisa Goeas, who heads the organization’s political and grassroots operation, said it’s important for the country to have more people in Washington like Nan Hayworth who understand the importance of small business.
“The last several years have been rough for small business owners and Washington has been a big part of the problem,” she said. “Dr. Hayworth believes strongly that the nation’s small businesses can lead America’s economic recovery. She has shown that she is one of the most reliable defenders of small business in Congress and we’re very proud to endorse her in this election.
Hayworth’s endorsement was made by the NFIB SAFE Trust, the organization’s political action committee. Surveys show that small business owners are influential in their communities and NFIB members in New York’s 18th Congressional District will work hard this year to send Dr. Nan Hayworth back to Washington.
