NFIB Applauds Governor Walkers
Job Creating Performance
Since Walker took office, Wisconsin’s
unemployment rate has dropped over 2%
Madison (October 17, 2014): The National Federation of Independent
Business (NFIB) today lauded Governor Walker for his success in improving Wisconsin’s
job market and continuing to enact policies that strengthen small business.
According to a jobs
report released today by the Department of Workforce Development, Wisconsin’s
economy is growing and in September the state added 8,400 new private sector
jobs.
“Thanks to Governor Walker’s
economic policies, which small business strongly supports, Wisconsin’s
unemployment rate has fallen well below the national rate and has reached a new
post-recession low.” Said NFIB state director Bill G. Smith. “We are fortunate to
have had such strong leadership for the past four years. More private sector
jobs have been created during Governor Walker’s first term than during eight
years of the Doyle administration.”
The current 5.5 percent
unemployment rate continues a trend set since Walker took office when the
unemployment rate was a staggering 7.8 percent. According to the monthly
estimates, 124,000 private sector jobs since December 2010.
Today’s report also
showed that initial weekly unemployment insurance claims for the first 40 weeks
of 2014 dropped to the lowest point since 2000, and the annual average weekly unemployment
insurance claims are at their lowest levels since 2000.
