The Maryland
Department of Environment is hosting a public meeting with the Marcellus Shale
Advisory Commission Monday, December 8 from 3-6PM simultaneously in Oakland and Baltimore
City, to discuss the draft final report. Public comments will be heard from
4:45-6PM. NFIB encourages members to attend and share comments.
Talking points:
- I appreciate the commissions review of this issue and look forward to safely moving forward. However, the
recommendations to proceed over regulates opportunities for economic growth and
job creation in Western Maryland and puts us at a competitive disadvantage with
neighboring states (Pennsylvania, West Virginia).
- Maryland
has been unable to utilize our natural gas resource for far too long already,
and this report delays drilling for at least another two years, further harming
our local economy, job creation, and extending our dependency on foreign energy
sources.
- As a local
business owner, I have concerns with such strong restrictions that as much as
83% of Garrett and Allegany counties are off limits for Marcellus Shale
exploration.
