Date: April 29, 2015

The National Federation of Independent Business, Oklahoma’s
leading small-business association, has presented its coveted Guardian of Small
Business Award to state Sen. Dan Newberry (37th District) and Rep. Jeffrey Hickman (58th District).

The Guardian of Small
Business award is the most prestigious honor that NFIB bestows on legislators
in recognition of their efforts to support small business issues. The NFIB/Oklahoma
Leadership Council voted to present the award to Senator Newberry for
supporting small-business issues in the General Assembly.

Senator Newberry has
earned a 100-percent NFIB/Oklahoma voting record for supporting small, family businesses
on a host of issues, including SB 1023, which prohibits cities from setting a
local minimum wage that’s higher than the federal rate, HB 1911, an
unemployment insurance reform bill related to misconduct, and HB 1001, which
improves the unemployment filing process for employers.

Since 2011, Speaker
Hickman has achieved a 100-percent NFIB/Oklahoma voting record for supporting
small, family businesses on a host of issues, including SB 1023, the local minimum wage bill.

“Senator Newberry and Speaker Hickman have shown us time and again that they understand the critical role small business plays in
the state’s economy,” said Jerrod Shouse, state director of NFIB/Oklahoma. “They truly are Guardians of Small Business.”
