New Bill Would Allow Workers to opt for Overtime

Date: March 31, 2015

Policymakers want to make Wisconsin more competitive.

Two Wisconsin state lawmakers want to repeal a law that requires workers to have at least one day off a week.

Under current law, employers must give factory workers 24 consecutive hours off every seven days. At present, the only way to circumvent that law is with permission from Wisconsin’s Department of Workforce Development.

Under a proposal by Rep. Mark Born of Beaver Dam and Sen. Van Wanggaard of Racine, that requirement would be repealed.

Their reasoning? It would allow workers to take on more overtime, lessen business owners’ regulatory burden and make the state more competitive.
