N.C. DEBATE: Hagan 'Doesn't Get Small Business'

Date: October 07, 2014

Lisa Goeas, the National Federation of Independent Business’ vice president for Political and Grassroots, released the following statement in response to tonight’s Senate debate:

“Kay Hagan says the economy is the No. 1 priority for families in North Carolina, but there’s a big difference between what she says and what she’s done.

“It’s one thing to create a small-business advisory committee, but that doesn’t change the fact that in six years in the Senate, she voted against small business 72 percent of the time and in sync with President Obama 96 percent of the time.

“When it came time to do something for Main Street, mom-and-pop businesses, Kay Hagan voted against them. She voted against tax reform. She voted against repealing the estate tax. She voted against fixing the wildly misnamed Affordable Care Act, a ‘cure’ that makes things worse by slamming small businesses with hidden taxes and penalties that discourage job growth.

“Listening to Kay Hagan tonight, it was crystal clear that she doesn’t get small business.

“Thom Tillis, on the other hand, talked about the need for sensible regulations, tax relief and reform that makes health care more accessible and more affordable, which is why the NFIB SAFE (Save America’s Free Enterprise) Trust has endorsed him for Senate.

“Thom Tillis got it exactly right when he said government doesn’t create jobs, businesses do. That’s why we need to elect Thom Tillis for Senate.”
