NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION TAKES DIRECT HIT FROM JOAQUIN

TRENTON
(September 30, 2015): As Hurricane Joaquin continues to leave
everyone on the eastern seaboard guessing where it will make the largest
impact, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is imploring its
thousands of members in the state of New Jersey to pay close attention to the
path of the storm and be prepared in the event of a direct hit.

“It’s vital to
the well-being of our members that they stay informed and up to date on what
Joaquin is doing through this weekend. We know all too well what a devastating
blow a tropical system can have on our members. This is a great time to
practice disaster preparedness, regardless of whether or not the storm has a
direct hit on New Jersey,” according to NFIB New Jersey state director, Laurie
Ehlbeck. “There are many actions that a business owner can take to ensure that
if a major weather event does occur, their employees and their business capitol
are protected.”

FEMA deemed
September National Preparedness Month to bring attention to disaster
preparedness and today ends their grassroots campaign entitled, “America’s
PrepareAthon.” This nationwide movement to get individuals, families,
organizations and whole communities better prepared for emergencies ends today
in a National Day of Action where they encourage American’s across the country
to be well equipped when faced with adversity.

“Our motto is
to hope for the best but plan for the worst. Continuity in the face of a
tragedy is vital to our members. Business interruption can be prevented or at
the very least kept to a minimum when small employers are organized prior to an
event whether it be Joaquin or something else. Communications plans with
employees and safeguarding vital documents for businesses are a great start to
preparing for an emergency,” continued Ehlbeck. “Hardship is an unfortunate
part of life but small businesses are the corner stone of our communities and
when they are able to open their doors after a tragedy they breathe life back
in to the place they call home and help support the recovery of their neighborhoods.”
