NFIB member Mike Smith won the 2015 Ken Legler Small Business Champion Award.
Smith is the president of StreetTalk Advisors, a Houston financial firm established in 2002, which focuses on delivering high quality financial planning and portfolio management to their small business clients.
Smith, an NFIB member since 2003, was instrumental in developing the 2015 NFIB radio ad focused on repealing the franchise tax this legislative session. Smith has presided on NFIB’S Leadership Council for 13 years, most recently as co-chairman, and currently is the incoming chairman.
“Mike is very involved in the Young Entrepreneur Program as a donor and nominator of potential scholarship winners,” Newton said. “We looked forward to experiencing and being a part of his continued legacy with NFIB/Texas and his tenure as the leadership council president.
Newton said the Ken Legler Small Business Champion Award has historically been awarded to a small business owner who has gone above and beyond. The award is named after the late Ken Legler who with his wife Barbara owned Houston Wire Works and have been NFIB members since 1974. Barbara and Newton presented this year’s award together to Smith at the Small Business Day at the Capitol event.
