Nashville’s development authority is attempting to take the Ford’s property and give it to a Houston-based private developer to put up an office building that will house an architectural and real estate firm and generate more property taxes. Tennessee’s 2006 law strictly prohibits the taking of private property to be transferred to another private entity — MDHA is claiming that since it developed its plans a decade ago, the new law does not apply. The Legal Center has filed a brief on Ford’s behalf arguing that the new law is the relevant standard that must be applied in this case.
