Will Massachusetts small business owners be able to compete nationally without access to a natural gas pipeline?
According to a new energy study by Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healy, the answer is yes, but many business leaders do not agree.
“As we make long-term decisions about our energy future, it’s imperative we have the facts,” Healey said in a press statement. “This study demonstrates that we do not need increased gas capacity to meet electric reliability needs, and that electric ratepayers shouldn’t foot the bill for additional pipelines.”

For small business owners hoping to compete and grow, the Attorney General’s stance was not welcome. “Natural gas capacity – the ability to bring low cost natural gas to Massachusetts – is the bedrock of our energy future, supplemented by renewables like solar, hydro and land-based wind power,” NFIB/MA State Director Bill Vernon said.
