Maryland Fracking Regulations Expected To Be Established in 2016

Date: May 19, 2015

An article by the Daily Record on May 18 indicated that fracking regulations may not be ready until 2016. According to Maryland Department of the Environment Secretary Ben
Grumbles, the agency is reviewing comments on regulations proposed under
former Gov. Martin J. O’Malley,
and said the agency may re-open the
regulations to  make adjustments and release a final version until
sometime in 2016. As the Daily Record reports, this timeline seems to coincide with a fracking moratorium bill that passed the General Assembly this year.  HB 499,  restricts the state from issuing permits for drilling until October 2017. It requires
Maryland’s Department of the Environment to adopt regulations for the
practice by October 2016.
