The Top Highlights From Marco Rubio’s Small Business Talk

Date: November 05, 2015

The Republican hopeful teamed up with business leaders from around the country to describe his stance on the pressing issues of next year’s election.

Sen. Marco Rubio, following a huge surge in the polls, kicked off NFIB’s presidential candidate TeleForum series on Nov. 4.

Speaking with more than 7,000 business leaders, Rubio touched on many of the most pressing small business issues: healthcare, taxes, energy policies, labor regulations and more. He was the first candidate to participate in the TeleForum series that NFIB hosts in coordination with a business coalition made up of the Associated General Contractors, Associated Builders and Contractors, BIPAC, National Association of Manufacturers and the National Retail Federation.

“Small business is the backbone of our economy, and job creators deserve to know where the presidential candidates stand on key economic issues,” said NFIB CEO Dan Danner

Rubio echoed that sentiment in his opening remarks, saying that small business is “not some sort of special interest,” The Business Journals reported. It’s “the backbone of the entire economy.”

In addition to small businesses suffering because of big government, Rubio also talked about his desire to repeal Obamacare, fixing unfavorable business tax structures and the country’s need to develop more people in skilled trades, The Business Journals reported.
