March on Main Street Begins Tomorrow

Date: November 27, 2015

JUNEAU, Alaska, Nov. 27, 2015—The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), America’s largest small-business association, and its Small Business Saturday partner, American Express, a leading issuer of credit and gift cards, are finishing up their Shop Small promotion for tomorrow’s event.
Started by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday has since become a huge success, last year drawing 88 million customers who spent $14.3 billion dollars, according to American Express’s research. This year, Amex says 55 percent of U.S. customers are aware of the special day.
The day’s goal is to pull some holiday shopping out of the malls and onto Main Street. Begun at the height of the Great Recession, Small Business Saturday sought to help Main Street entrepreneurs with their biggest need: Customers. In recent research by NFIB, poor sales remain one of the top four concerns.
More than a thousand small businesses across the nation took advantage of NFIB’s offer of free advertising of their firms, including unique ones such as Last Remains Antiques & Estate Liquidation in Abilene, Texas, “We have what Grandma didn’t give you! A collection from the civil war era to retro lava lamps,” and Fin Fun in Idaho Falls, Idaho, “Ever wanted to swim and look like a mermaid? We make it possible.” Click here to find the Alaska participants and keep zooming in to find the city and business. Amex, too, has a list of small businesses participating in its offer.
