Maine Small Business Backs Poliquin for Congress

Date: September 22, 2014

Washington, DC (September 22, 2014) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Maine’s leading
small business organization, today endorsed Bruce Poliquin in the open-seat
contest in the 2nd Congressional District.

“Bruce
Poliquin is a long-time businessman with a true sense of how challenging it is to
make a payroll and remain competitive with all of the taxes and regulatory
burdens imposed by Washington,” said NFIB
Vice President Lisa Goeas
. “Our members believe that despite all of the
rhetoric, Washington politicians just aren’t listening to their concerns.  Bruce Poliquin shares their frustration and
that’s why we support his candidacy.”

Poliquin,
a lifelong businessman and former State Treasurer, supports a balanced federal
budget, lower taxes and health care reform featuring private sector competition
instead of top-down government control.

“His
experience in business clearly informs his positions, but our members are also
impressed with his performance as Treasurer, which is marked by the kind of
sound fiscal management that Washington really needs,” said Goeas.

Running
against Polquin is State Senator Emily Cain, whose record on small business
issues is extremely weak.  Her lifetime
voting record with NFIB is a disappointing 30 percent, which means that on the
issues that NFIB members have identified as important, she has voted against
their interests seven out of 10 times.

“Emily
Cain hasn’t been a reliable protector of small businesses,” said Goeas.  “There’s no reason to believe that her
priorities will change once she gets to Washington.  Our members can count on Bruce Polquin, so
he’s the best choice for small business in this race.”

Poliquin’s
endorsement was made by the NFIB SAFE Trust, the organization’s political
action committee.  Surveys show that
small business owners are influential in their communities and this year NFIB
members will work hard to send Bruce Poliquin to Congress as the representative
for Maine’s 2nd District.
