Main Street Fact-Checker: How Many Small Businesses Support Kay Hagan's Policies?

Date: October 03, 2014

Kay Hagan’s campaign released a letter today from a handful of business owners claiming to tout her as a pro-small business candidate. In contrast, NFIB and our 8,000 dues-paying members in North Carolina stand strongly behind Thom Tillis.

But don’t take our word for it; let’s let the facts speak for themselves.

CLAIM: Kay Hagan formed a Small Business Advisory Committee to listen to constituents on small business issues
FACT: Kay Hagan’s record is dismal at best. In fact, she voted AGAINST small businesses 72% of the time during her six years in the Senate

CLAIM: Kay Hagan puts commonsense solutions ahead of partisan bickering
FACT: There’s nothing commonsense or nonpartisan about Obamacare, which Kay Hagan voted for and continues to champion.

And there’s nothing commonsense about Obamacare’s Health Insurance Tax either, which specifically targets small businesses. The fact is that Obamacare was written by anti-business special interest groups and their cronies in Washington, with no input from small businesses or those who would be affected by the law’s disastrous consequences.

Senator Hagan is trying to portray herself as pro-small business. But North Carolina small businesses have heard empty promises before. Does “if you like your health insurance, you can keep it,” ring a bell?

North Carolina small businesses need Thom Tillis in the U.S. Senate, which is why Thom Tillis is the only Small Business Certified candidate for Senate.

NFIB is the nation’ leading small business association. Founded in 1943 as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, NFIB gives small and independent business owners a voice in shaping the public policy issues that affect their business. NFIB’ powerful network of grassroots activists sends their views directly to state and federal lawmakers through our unique member-only ballot, thus playing a critical role in supporting America’ free enterprise system.
