LISTEN: Kentucky Small Business Mobilizes for McConnell

Date: September 16, 2014

Small-business owners in Kentucky this morning will hit the airwaves and the Internet urging voters to support Senator Mitch McConnell in his bid for reelection.

“Senator McConnell has been a champion for small business in Washington and we need more voices like his in Congress,” said Lisa Goeas, vice president with the NFIB, the nation’s leading advocate for small business owners. “Our members will be fighting for Mitch McConnell’s reelection because he has been fighting for the small business community for the past 30 years.”

The group today launched a flight of radio and online ads asking voters to support McConnell in what experts believe is a pivotal race for the US Senate.  The effort is part of the NFIB’s Vote for Main Street campaign. Click here to listen to the radio ad.

NFIB also released a Mitch McConnell candidate webpage on its National Election Center website, where voters can go to find tools that make it easy to volunteer, donate and support Mitch McConnell.

“It’s clear to see that Mitch McConnell understands the struggles of small businesses in Kentucky because he fights for federal policies that will help Main Street grow and prosper,” said NFIB Kentucky State Director Tom Underwood. “I believe NFIB Kentucky members and small business owners and employees across the country would greatly benefit by having Mitch McConnell lead the Senate.”

The website also features a video of Daniel Withrow, founder of a local distribution company, who explains how Washington is making things harder for small businesses in Kentucky and why Mitch McConnell is his choice for U.S. Senate.

“Small businesses are facing extreme uncertainty under Obamacare because we don’t know what costs are coming next or when they’ll hit, so we can’t plan for the future, grow, or hire new employees,” said Withrow, president of CSS Distribution Group, Inc. “I’m voting for Senator McConnell because he is fighting for federal policies and regulations to give Kentucky small business the opportunity and ability to grow and succeed.”

The Kentucky launch is the fourth candidate-specific campaign in NFIB’s broader program to elect “Small Business Certified” candidates in 2014. Throughout September, the NFIB will be rolling out similar campaigns to support candidates in battleground states.

“For small businesses this election is about one thing: restoring trust with Main Street America and voting for candidates who will stand up and fight for their issues,” said NFIB President and CEO Dan Danner. “NFIB and our members trust and support Senator McConnell because he serves as an excellent voice for the small business community and we need more politicians like him in Washington.”
