Hundreds of small-business owners came to Columbus, Ohio on
June 3, 2015 for NFIB/Ohio’s Small Business Day at the Capitol. It was a great mix of issues such as workers compensation
reform, tax reform and unemployment compensation reform along with hearing from
US Senator Rob Portman on a host of federal issues he has been working toward
on behalf of small-business owners in Washington, DC. The event was emceed by NFIB/Ohio Leadership
Council member Kelly Moore from Zanesville, Ohio.
In addition to Senator Portman, Ohio Senate President and
fellow NFIB member Keith Faber addressed the group as did Ohio House of
Representatives Speaker Pro Tempore Ron Amstutz. Concluding the events of the
morning program was the presentation of the highest legislative honor NFIB
bestows, the Guardian of Small Business to Senator Bob Peterson, also an NFIB
member, and the Small Business Champion award for 2015 to Lima Pallet Company
owner Tracie Sanchez, recognizing her as our member of the year. Tracie serves
on the NFIB/Ohio Leadership Council, has hosted a number of NFIB events, and
also serves on the Ohio BWC board of directors.
The luncheon at the Ohio Statehouse saw many members of the
Ohio General Assembly in attendance, including most of the 33 NFIB members
serving in the Ohio House of Representatives and Senate. Attorney General Mike DeWine and Ohio Supreme
Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor were also in attendance. It was a great opportunity for members to put
into action some of their own “lobbying” skills that were discussed at the morning
program.
During the Ohio Senate session that followed the event both
Senate President Faber and Senator Bill Beagle, also an NFIB member, recognized
NFIB members who were in attendance and acknowledged that we had held Small
Business Day at the Capitol. It was a
great day for small-business owners in the state of Ohio!
