AS GOVERNOR BRANSTAD PREPARES FOR STATE OF THE STATE, SMALL BUSINESS IS OPTIMISTIC

DES MOINES (January 12, 2015) Today the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is optimistic on the eve of Governor Branstad’s fifth state of the state that he will begin the year by prioritizing the needs of small business owners. Hoping to see a focus on reducing or eliminating burdensome and repetitive regulations on small businesses, NFIB Iowa State Director Kristin Failor is eager to hear the remarks.

“Our members are really hoping to see a focus on regulations that are repetitive and make it costly to do business in Iowa.” She said. “We are confident that Governor Branstad can find a way to streamline the regulatory structure to allow businesses to operate while maintaining the integrity of the process in a way that will provide cost savings not only to our proprietors, but to tax payers as well.”

Additionally, the National Federation of Independent Business would like the Governor to turn his attention to addressing the onerous personal income tax system in the state.

“Iowa’s personal income tax consists of a complex nine bracket system that is burdensome for small business owners since most do not pay corporate taxes.” Continued Failor. “By simplifying the tax code in the state with a little common sense, it will allow people to continue to pay their taxes but in a way that is more understandable for personal income tax payers throughout the state.”
