Grand Junction Members Treated to First Visa/NFIB National Economic Road Show

Date: September 23, 2014

Chief economists for Visa and NFIB made Grand Junction the first stop on their national road show aimed at giving small-business owners some exclusive intelligence on where the nation is headed.
Wayne Best of Visa and William Dunkelberg of NFIB said, with some qualifications, that the economy was starting to show signs of improvements that were more than temporary.
After an editorial board meeting with the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, the newspaper, in a front page story the next day, reported, “The signs of improvement … are everywhere, said Wayne Best, chief economist for Visa, Inc., pointing to significant pent-up demand for new cars and trucks, as well as for durable goods, meaning household items such as washers and dryers.
“Outside of the usual threats – such as wars and natural disasters – the main treat to a recovery lies in the prospect of new rules and regulation, said William Dunkelberg, chief economist for the National Federation of Independent Business.”
Local radio stations and The Business Times ran stories leading up to the September 22 event at Colorado Mesa University. Members and other area small-business owners were treated to dinner and the full presentation, after welcoming remarks from U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton and NFIB/Colorado State Director Tony Gagliardi.
The news departments for the CBS and NBC affiliates also broadcast interviews and parts of the event. The ABC affiliate ran this story on its website.
