Governor Speaks To NFIB Members in Exclusive Call

Date: June 17, 2015

Thanks to support from AT&T, NFIB/Arizona was able to hold the first Telephone Town Hall of the year on June 11. Events that put small-business owners directly in touch with the policymakers who shape the state laws their enterprises must operate under are one of the many benefits to membership in NFIB.
Kicking off the summer series was the man at the top: Gov. Doug Ducey, who answered question from members in Marana, Phoenix, Safford, and Tempe. Telephone invitations to join the half-hour call went out to 5,000 NFIB members. More Telephone Town Halls will be coming up. And don’t forget to check your www.nfib.com/AZ website for local members meetings coming your way.
Governor Ducey’s Town Hall can be listened to right here. Below are some of the highlights of his remarks.
  • “Our focus is to grow the economy and to make Arizona the easiest, most attractive state in the country to work and do business. I know that red tape is like a red sign, a stop sign to entrepreneur.”
  • I put a moratorium on all new regulations.”
  • “We’re not going to pay businesses to stay here. I think that is actually a bad use of taxpayer dollars. I think it’s unfair to the guy that’s out there working hard and sticking to his knitting and getting his job done to provide somebody who’s thinking of coming here or considering leaving a benefit over and above the hard working business owner who’s already here.”
  • “We passed the first structurally balanced budget for the first time in nearly a decade.”
  • “We also had the shortest legislative session in Arizona since the moon landing.”
  • “What we’re going to do is, build a good long-term tax base, regulatory environment, an environment in which to do business that has ample and affordable energy, predictable tax code, light regulation, good infrastructure and a sound water plan. If people come here, they’ll know that their business will be treated better year over year.”
  • “We permanently indexed Arizona’s income tax to inflation.”
  • “We consolidated state agencies [and] instituted a hiring freeze.”
  • “I’m thankful to NFIB, I want to make sure what we’re doing here in this administration is helping the independent business owner and that I want you to have wild success. That’s the best thing you can do to help the state, to help our fellow citizens, is to grow your business, hire more people and invest more in your companies in Arizona. I wish you have your success in the world.”
