Governor Scott Plans Legal Action Against Federal Government for Attempting to Force Medicaid Expansion

On Wednesday, April 15, Governor Rick Scott joined members of Florida’s Congressional
delegation to urge the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to continue
LIP funding in Florida.

Governor Scott followed up the letter on Thursday by announcing plans to take legal action against the federal healthcare agency for stopping Low Income Pool (LIP) healthcare
funds to Florida in order to force the state to take Legislative action to
expand Medicaid under Obamacare.

The Supreme Court stated in its decision in NFIB v Sebelius, NFIB’s landmark case against the federal healthcare law, that the federal government could not coerce a state into expanding Medicaid. See Politico’s coverage here: http://politi.co/1FP3K9r
