Governor, Legislators Turn Their Attention to the Budget

Date: April 01, 2014

The 108th Tennessee General Assembly is on course to conclude by mid-April, as Senate and House leaders predicted in January.  Most committees have closed for business.

Legislators are also aware the April 3 filing deadline for state candidates; many incumbents are eager to return to their districts to campaign.

Earlier today, Gov. Bill Haslam’s finance team unveiled a proposed budget to members of the finance committees. Franchise and excise tax revenues are well short of projections, and leaders are having to regroup and revise initial spending plans. NFIB will continue to watch this process very closely to ensure our members are protected from any adverse proposals.
Our advocacy team continues to work to pass important legislation and defeat remaining bad proposals. We will provide our entire membership a complete recap of the session shortly after it ends.
