Governor Branstad signs bills into law

Date: March 31, 2014

Governor Branstad has signed 34 bills into law ranging from corn promotion
to updates to the Business Corporation Act. Several of the bills had impact to
certain industry sectors of the NFIB membership. One bill that has been
mentioned in several legislative newsletters this year is HF 2346. HF 2346 relates to the definition of solid waste
that is used in evaluation of processes regulated by the Iowa Department of
Natural Resources.

The Governor also signed HF 2199 into law which ensures Iowa’s work share program
conforms to the federal law. Since Iowa conformed with the federal program, the
state will receive some matching funds from the federal government and will not
be at risk to lose federal unemployment dollars.

One other bill of interest to Iowa businesses is SF 2200, which updates the Iowa Business Corporation Act.
