FRANCHISE TAX REPEAL ACT OF 2015 MARKS SIGNIFICANT RELIEF

Date: May 28, 2015

(AUSTIN, TX) May 28, 2015 — National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB)/Texas, the state’s leading small business association, issued the following statement in response to the Franchise Tax Repeal Act of 2015 created in the 84th Legislative Session.
“Our position since the franchise tax was implemented in 2006 has been consistent for a repeal and/or reduction and this focus was renewed by the 82 percent of our independent business owner members surveyed before this session began,” said Will Newton, NFIB/Texas Executive Director. “Governor Abbott made his intention for the franchise tax clear 16 weeks ago at the NFIB/Texas Small Business Day at the Capitol event, where he announced then that he would not support a budget that did not include a franchise tax cut. The House and the Senate have sent a clear message in the passage of the Franchise Tax Repeal Act of 2015 that they have heard the voice of small business and the call that our economic backbone has made to end this pyramiding tax and move forward down the path of elimination.”
NFIB has 24,000 dues-paying members in Texas representing a cross-section of the state’s economy.
