Clinton Vows To Never Repeal Obamacare

Date: September 24, 2015

The Democratic presidential candidate says she will fight to strengthen the law.

Hillary Clinton spoke up on the Affordable Care Act this week and said if she’s elected president, Obamacare is not going anywhere.

Clinton previewed her fixes to the controversial healthcare law Monday, saying that while Republican candidates look to repeal the law, she plans to strengthen and improve it.

“All of the Republicans candidates for president are determined to get rid of the Affordable Care Act,” Clinton said to a Baton Rouge audience. “I will tell you, I am not going to let them rip away the progress we made, I am not going to let them tear up that law, kick 16 million people off health coverage and force this country to start the healthcare debate all over again. Not on my watch.”

Clinton said she would “build on the progress” made by Obamacare, such as bringing down healthcare costs, easing burdens on small businesses and increasing choice.

One of the most concrete changes Clinton has embraced is the law’s small business mandate, which requires businesses with 50 or more full-time employees to offer health insurance or pay a penalty. In a February 2014 speech, Clinton endorsed addressing businesses “moving people from full-time work to part-time work to try to avoid contributing to their health care,” CNN reported.

Clinton plans to outline her proposed changes to the existing law in the coming week, including a cap on prescription drug prices and increased accountability for drug companies to uphold them.
