Ben Chafin will represent the 38th District in the Virginia Senate after winning almost 60% of the vote in the Aug. 19 special election.
Chafin, who earned the endorsement of the NFIB/Virginia SAFE (Save America’s Free Enterprise) Trust, will replace former Sen. Phillip Puckett, a Democrat who retired in June.
Chafin’s win gives the GOP a 21-19 majority in the Senate.
“With a Republican-controlled General Assembly, the remaining
three years of Governor McAuliffe’s term should prove to be interesting,” said Nicole Riley, state director of NFIB/Virginia.
Chafin’s district includes all or part of Bland, Buchanan, Dickenson, Montgomery, Norton, Pulaski,
Radford, Russell, Smyth, Tazewell and Wise counties.
