Celebrate the
Entrepreneurial Spirit During National Small Business Week

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 12, 2014 — The National
Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), in conjunction with the Small
Business Administration, is proud to announce it is co-sponsoring National Small
Business Week in an effort to help promote the importance of small businesses
both on the federal level and in local communities.

Small
businesses play a big role in national and local economies by creating
two-thirds of the net new jobs annually, employing more than half of the
private-sector workforce, and generating nearly 50 percent of the annual U.S.
Gross Domestic Product. Serving as the backbone of the U.S. economy, America’s
small businesses are a crucial component to the strength and success of our
communities and our nation.

“These
entrepreneurs that inspire innovation and stimulate economic growth are the
pulse of the American Dream,” said NFIB President and CEO Dan Danner. “By
representing the very best attributes of this country, they deserve to be
recognized for all of their dedication to keeping Main Street vibrant —
especially in this era of uncertainty. National Small Business Week provides a
chance to celebrate the importance of the small business sector and acknowledge
their right to be supported and protected.”

Each
day this week, NFIB will be presenting a different small-business topic with
informational resources. Monday will feature several NFIB members and highlight
The
Life of a Small Business Owner
. NFIB Chief Economist William Dunkelberg on
Tuesday will discuss small-business optimism and the results of the Small
Business Economic Trends Report
. Wednesday features a webinar on Understanding and Building Credit
and includes a free credit report from Experian. On Thursday, NFIB hosts a live
Q&A with U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)
Commissioner Constance Barker on Employment and Your Business.
Friday closes with a look at How You Can
Support Young Entrepreneurs
, the future of small business.
