Harsh Winters Have Upside For Some Small Businesses

Date: October 20, 2014

Gyms, Auto Body Shops Benefit From Snowy Winters

The conventional wisdom is that last year’s
harsh winter was a major drag on business. While that is true for many
businesses, there are those for which the heavy winter weather provides
opportunity. For example, a story from New Jersey’s Asbury Park Press reports
body shops benefit from the increased number of auto accidents that occur,
while gyms see more customers as outdoor exercise becomes more difficult.

What This Means For Small Business:

Small business needs to be prepared both for the challenges and opportunities
that may be presented by winter. For example, the Asbury Park Press story finds
that some property management companies are stocking up early on road salt,
while auto shops are increasing their capacity to repair vehicles.
