Gallup Survey Suggests Consumers Intend To Increase Holiday Spending

Date: October 28, 2014

Americans Expect To Spend $781 On Average This Year

On Monday, Gallup released its first look at
projected holiday spending this year, and the initial signs are good news for
small business. Gallup found that, on average, Americans expect to spend $781
this year, up from $704 last year. In its analysis, Gallup says that consumers
remain “less extravagant” about their holiday shopping intentions than they
were prior to the 2008 recession, when they regularly expected to spend $800 or
more. Gallup’s data is based on a survey of 1,017 adults from October 12-15.

What This Means For Small Business:

Holiday spending is key for many small businesses, particularly retailers, and
a strong year could act as a launching point for a better 2015.
