Barbara Quandt named to new Job Creation Committee

Date: September 15, 2014

Over the last ten years, the number of licensed
Hoosiers has dramatically increased as more professions are licensed now than
ever before. There were approximately 340,000 Hoosiers with a professional
license in 2004. Today, there are more than 470,000 licensed Hoosiers; an
increase of 38 percent. According to the Institute for Justice, 1 in 3
American workers have to be licensed before legally being able to go to work
each day.

In April,
Governor Pence signed into law Senate Enrolled Act 421, creating the Job
Creation Committee. The JCC is tasked with reviewing and evaluating each
regulated profession, committee and board that is overseen by the Indiana
Professional Licensing Agency. Additionally, the committee will be discussing
the duties, functions and powers of each regulated profession and assessing
the management efficiency of each board, burdens of licensure, alternatives
to traditional licensing practices and appropriate fees to be paid by
licensees.

The first
meeting will be held on Thursday, September 18.
